Shinfield is again under threat.
The character of the Village (link to School Green VCS) will be changed beyond recognition and forever by the proposals in the Wokingham Borough Council’s Core Strategy. If you do not want this to happen you must make your views known and heard by your local Councillors, Shinfield Parish Council and Wokingham Borough Council.
Submission Core Strategy.
The Submission Core Strategy details a broad approach to where development could go within the borough to 2026. The views of the community surveyed in autumn 2004, together with consultations in both summer and winter 2005 and summer 2006 have informed the submission Core Strategy.
Overall, by 2026, the aim of the submission Core Strategy is to protect key features of the borough’s landscape, ecology, heritage and environment. It also aims to ensure that everyone has good access to services such as schools, health and community facilities. A key to this is having a good transport system with adequate capacity. Development which will have to be of high quality will be concentrated in those towns and villages that either have a significant range of facilities and services or these are envisaged in the Plan period. If improvements to facilities and services cannot be achieved, development would not be acceptable in those areas with poor provision. Consequently, residential development is to be concentrated in four Strategic Development Locations at Arborfield Garrison (about 3,500 dwellings), south of the
M4 (about 2,500 dwellings), North Wokingham (about 1,500 dwellings) and south Wokingham (about 2,500 dwellings).
In addition to the Strategic Development Locations, development is most likely to occur in and around Arborfield Garrison, Earley, Shinfield, Spencers Wood, Three Mile Cross, Twyford, Winnersh, Wokingham and Woodley. The Council will improve the sustainability of all of these locations so that they can cope with the scale of development envisaged during the Plan period.
By 2026, development and services required in the area will be fully integrated to relate appropriately to and enhance established communities. The range of facilities and services available to the community will have been enhanced so that the need to travel longer distances will have been reduced. There will also be increased choice in the modes of transport available to reach the wide range of facilities and services in the district and beyond. All necessary facilities and services to support proposals for development (including public transport) will have been provided before significant proposals are completed that rely on these enhancements.
Consultation on the submission Core Strategy
The Council will be seeking views on the submission Core Strategy from 20 August to 1 October 2008. In order to comply with the statutory requirements, the Council will not be able to accept comments outside of these dates.

This is the 200 year old Oak Tree, after the demonstration 18th March 2005, on A327 and junction of Cutbush Lane, in the village of Shinfield, South of Reading. The attempted felling of this tree, sparked the formation of this action group. The tree has gone... we have been promised a replacement, which is to go on the corner of the newly resited Brookers Hill. When????
